West Tiffin residents deal with recurring flooding

Posted: Updated:

Monday's heavy rain caused flash floods all over Seneca County. On Tuesday, residents in Tiffin were busy cleaning up and calling for action, frustrated with what they are calling a recurring problem.

Drying out is the name of the game on Northwood Drive. Heavy rains led to flash flooding in the west side Tiffin neighborhood. A photo from the Advertiser Tribune showed a car parked on the street looking like it was sitting in a river.

Bob Brickner has lived on Northwood for 17 years. Since then, his street has flooded three times.

"They talk about 100-year floods," he says. "We seem to get those pretty often."

Neighbors blame a retention pond at the end of the street for the problem. Residents we spoke with say the pond needs to be larger to stop and flooding.

A nearby mall owns the pond property, and residents say, without a response from the owners, heavy rains will continue to cause concern.

13abc tried contacting the owners of the mall but did not here back.

The mayor of Tiffin says city leaders are in the process of finding out if the mall is at fault and will continuing looking into the problem in the coming weeks.
