Detroit Red Wings Executive Vice President and General Manager Ken Holland announced that the club has signed forward Luke Glendening to a one-year contract. In accordance with team policy, additional terms of the deal will not be disclosed.
Glendening, 24, was signed by the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League as a free agent on June 19, 2012, and split time last season between Grand Rapids (51GP, 8G-18A-26P) and the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL (27GP, 14G-7A-21P). The 5-11, 200-lb. forward skated in 24 postseason games for the Griffins during their run to the 2013 Calder Cup championship, collecting 16 points (6G-10A-16P) and 30 PIM.
Prior to his professional career, Glendening played four seasons with the Michigan Wolverines of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native was named the CCHA's Best Defensive Forward following the 2011-12 season and captained the Wolverines during his junior and senior seasons.
