Lucas County Fair kicks off in Maumee

Posted: Updated:

The 155th Lucas County Fair kicked off at the fairgrounds in Maumee on Tuesday.

Chainsaw carving, truck pulls, and a mud-bogging competition are just a few of the highlights.

13 ABC's Christine Long spoke with kids who are proud to show off their miniature ponies.

"My horse's name is Flower and I like to ride her," says Miranda Yeager, a 6-year-old from Swanton.

What makes Flower a miniature pony and not simply a pony?

"She's smaller and has shorter legs," says Yeager.

You can check out the horses and ponies through Sunday.

"Everybody wants to pet a horse," says Andrea Katafiasz, a horse owner from Toledo. "You don't have to pay to pet the horse.  You just come out and see them. The horses in here hang their heads over their stall. They're very sweet. There are no biters. They are around kids all the time."
