AEP power station could help prevent future outages

Posted: Updated:

AEP Ohio wants to build a new $11.2 million power station in Hancock County that could cut down on future outages.

The Ebersole Station Project would be located about a mile and a half northeast of Findlay near County Road 216.  It would help boost the current power stations in the area and help the local economy with additional money in property taxes.  Leaders also expect the station to create about 20 temporary jobs during construction.

The proposed station would not prevent people from losing power when poles and transformers are destroyed like they were during Wednesday's storms, but it would provide an electrical back up for the community.

"It will help in situations like we're experience across the state right now, power outages due to the storm," says Vikki Michalski, a company spokesperson. "It will in some situations, make outages shorter."

The company is considering two sites right now, but leaders are looking for resident feedback about which one they should pick.  Construction is slated to finish next summer.
