Posted: Updated:

A 62-year-old Defiance woman is dead and the young passenger in her car was injured after the Ohio Highway Patrol says she failed to yield the right of way at the intersection of Banner School Road and Carpenter Road in Tiffin Township.

Officers say it happened about 10:45 a.m. on Saturday. Janice Thompson was southbound on Carpenter road when she failed to stop at the right of way and was struck broadside by a truck driven by Edward Osborn, 74, also of Defiance.

Both vehicles went off the road after the crash. Mrs. Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Defiance County Coroner. An unidentified juvenile passenger in her car was taken by air ambulance to Mercy St. Vincent Medial Center in Toledo with non-life threatening injuries.

Mr. Osborn and a passenger were taken to Defiance Regional Hospital with minor injuries.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged in the crash. Both drivers and passengers were wearing safety belts.

The crash remains under investigation.
