Van going over 100 mph crashes into Crown Inn Motel

Posted: Updated:

A van slammed into the Crown Inn Motel on Alexis Road Sunday afternoon.

The driver of the van was Thomas Wallace, 32, of Temperance, Michigan.

Police say Wallace was traveling over 100 miles per hour when he ran a red light on Jackman Road hitting two other vehicles. He then lost control and hit a light pole, before crashing into the motel.

Wallace fled the scene and police found him in a K-Mart parking lot nearby.

Adrian Smith was inside the room when the truck ran into it. "I get up to use the bathroom and right when I get up to use the bathroom, the truck ended up in my room. You know what I'm saying? Just one big bang!"

Rochelle Watson was also in the room. "If he wouldn't have got up when he did, he would have been smashed up under that car. It came in right where he was laying at."

A pregnant woman in the room was pinned between the bed and couch.

Smith feels lucky. "I'm real lucky to be alive. Somebody prayed for me last night or this morning. I'll put it that way."

Three people were transported to a nearby hospital, including Wallace, with non life-threatening injuries.

Police do not think alcohol was a factor.
