Tour bus flips over in wash amid Ariz. rain storm

Posted: Updated:

KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) - A tour bus carrying 31 people was pushed into a wash before flipping over amid heavy rains in northern Arizona on Sunday, authorities said.

There were no reports of injuries after the accident near Kingman. Mohave County Sheriff's spokeswoman Trish Carter told KNXV-TV. Multiple agencies were at the scene, and Bill Johnston of the Kingman Fire Department told the news station, the bus had become stuck in an area with heavy rain before it was swept into the wash.

The crash happened as Northern Arizona was hit with a second day of heavy rain. Kingman is near the Arizona-Nevada stateline and about 100 miles southeast of Las Vegas.

Meteorologist Robert Rickey with the National Weather Service's Flagstaff office says the storm forecast for Sunday led to a flash flood watch for northwestern Coconino County until 10 p.m.

A flash flood warning for central Mohave County, where Kingman is located, was in effect until 5:45 p.m., KPHO-TV reported. There were reports of at least one car trapped in a wash at Feather Mountain Road earlier Sunday.

The Arizona Department of Transportation closed an 18-mile stretch of I-40 Saturday night between Flagstaff and Kingman because of the flash flooding, KPHO-TV reported.
