BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — For the first time in the 2013 season, the Bowling Green State University volleyball team was back on the court on Saturday for the annual Orange and White scrimmage. The White team would come out on top on Saturday afternoon, winning the match in three sets.
The first set was played evenly throughout, as no team ever led by more than four points. With the White team leading 15-11, the Orange would score the next five points, to take a 16-15 lead. The rally was led by two Allison Papenfuss kills, and three White team attack errors. The Orange team would lead 22-17 later in the set, before the White grabbed momentum with two straight Butterfield kills. After an attack error by the Orange team, the White team would even the match at 22 courtesy of consecutive service aces by Libby Dachenhaus. The White team would finish the set by scoring eight of the final nine points, grabbing a two set lead with a 25-23 second set triumph.
After the Orange team got the first point in the third set on a Penrod kill, the White team would score nine of the next 12 points to jump out to a commanding 9-to-4 lead in the set. The Orange would not quit, however, as they would eventually battle back to take a 13-to-12 lead in the set. The set would remain close until the White team would finally pull away at the end for the 25-19 set victory, and the three-set match victory.
