Mich. nuclear plant worker fired after positive alcohol test

Posted: Updated:

COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A report to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission say an employee at the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in southwestern Michigan was fired after testing positive for alcohol on the job.

MLive.com says the incident happened last Thursday at the plant, which is in on Lake Michigan in Van Buren County's Covert Township.

New Orleans-based Entergy Corp. owns the plant, and company spokeswoman Lindsay Rose says the employee was selected for a random test. She says the plant's safety "was never compromised" by the employee's alcohol consumption.

Palisades was closed from May 5 to June 17 because of a water tank leak that led to the release of some low-level radioactive material into Lake Michigan.
