TEMPERANCE, Mich. (AP) - Southeastern Michigan authorities say a psychologically disturbed man armed with a large knife who was in a car with his wife and 3-year-old child died in a jump from an expressway bridge in Toledo, Ohio.

The Monroe County sheriff's department says dispatchers got a call about 5:30 p.m. Saturday about a 31-year-old man who was "talking about aliens."

Lt. Heath Velliquette says the woman and child escaped from the car in Temperance, just north of the Ohio line.

Velliquette says the man stabbed himself in the chest, then drove off.

The lieutenant says the man drove onto Interstate 280 in Toledo, where he crashed through a guardrail and jumped from the Glass City Skyway bridge over the Maumee Rover. He says the man fell 130 feet to the ground below.
