The large crowd that ventured to Toledo Speedway Friday for the Wendy's Hamburgers "Night of Destruction" got what they came for and more! A wild and entertaining night of action and thrills put the exclamation mark on the evening, which included the track's ARCA ACME Dismantling Sportsman division championship event.
Representing the Toledo-area and surrounding Wendy's franchises, Wendy was busy all night, greeting fans, presenting trophies and she also sang both the Canadian and our National Anthem!
For the first time, the Sportsman class competed as part of the Night of Destruction race card. Ron Allen captured the 40 lap Championship race, the final point event of the season. A very competitive chase for the lead saw Allen hold on for the win over Mike Youngm, Kyle DeLisle Jr., Howard Kelley Jr., Jim Froling, Greg Stilwell, Jeff Myers Jr., Chad Stilwell, Kenny McKay Jr., Dan Grigsby, Norm Lewallen, David Frantz, Kent McCloskey, Andy Harding and Rich Abel. Froling captured the 2013 track championship, edging out DeLisle Jr., Allen, McKay Jr. and Young for the honor. Kelley Jr. and Myers Jr. took the heat wins. DeLisle Jr. set quick time at 17:447.
David Price notched the win in the 20 lap ARCA 4 Cylinder feature, topping David Katafiasz, Eric Fitzpatrick and James McClure. Price set fast time at 12:631.
Boats flying off trailers, being dragged around the track, trailers/boats turning back up on 2 wheels in the corners and more highlighted a hilarious Boat Figure 8 race. John Rabideau was the only 1 left with a boat at the finish. Archie Padgett lost his boat and trailer, then took his car and slammed all the way through a cabin cruiser boat that was parked in the infield of the Figure 8 course as the crowd cheered! Jeff King and Mike "Mayhem" Miller also crashed and slammed their way around the track. The boats and trailers were supplied by Fisher Marine.
The 12 lap Figure 8 Train race saw Tommy O'Leary/James McClure sail to the victory, avoiding intersection traffic and cars sliding all over the track. The Train race, which features 2 cars chained together, front car with the engine and the back car with the brakes, provided plenty of action every lap. Marco Dinze/Erich Heuschele, Howard Kelley Jr./Tom O'Leary III, Adam Plonski/Jim Brazeau and Tom O'Leary Jr./Charlie Williams were next in line at the finish.
And to cap off the night, a wild, wild School Bus Figure 8 race saw 3 buses roll over, including the final hit as winner Dennis Whisman tagged Jeff King in the Wendy's bus with a heavy hit at the intersection, sending Jeff over as the crowd roared its approval! The hits started on only the second lap when Archie Padgett went over with help from Jack Franzil. Later, Troy Herrmann went over on his side when Joe "Awful Knawful" Koester nosed into Troy. Ian Jezylo was involved early and re-arranged the front end of his bus. Bus sponsors were First Choice Auto, Woodville Auto Finance, Burge Wrecking, PB Fabrication, R & M Recycling, Mayfly Tavern, Central Truck Parts and Wendy's.
