The Detroit Red Wings announced today the itinerary for the fifth annual MI Wings Community Tour presented by ITC Holdings Corp., with three groups of Red Wings players scheduled to stop at a military base, children's hospital, police training academy, U.S. Coast Guard station and two elementary schools throughout the state en route to training camp in Traverse City on Tuesday, Sept. 10. All six stops on the tour are closed to the public.
Four players – Danny DeKeyser, Patrick Eaves, Cory Emmerton and Jimmy Howard – will kick off the east leg of the tour with a visit to Selfridge Air National Guard Base to visit an estimated 275 military members working out of the base. These players will then continue on to Frankenmuth, Mich., to participate in a school rally featuring 435 students at List Elementary School.
The central leg of the tour will feature Pavel Datsyuk, Jonathan Ericsson and Niklas Kronwall meeting with 66 recruits at the Michigan State Police Training Academy in Lansing, Mich., followed by putting their driving skills to the test at the Precision Driving Facility. The tour will end with a school assembly at Ganiard School in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., with 425 elementary students.
Justin Abdelkader, Jakub Kindl, Drew Miller and Stephen Weiss will go on the west leg of the tour to visit up to 44 patients and their families at Bronson Children's Hospital in Kalamazoo, Mich., before heading to the U.S. Coast Guard station in Grand Haven, Mich., where they will meet with 22 Coast Guard members and take a ride on one of the 47-foot Motor Lifeboats.
Every student, military member and patient will receive a co-branded Detroit Red Wings and ITC autograph poster and goody bag with promotional items during the community tour.
