Hundreds of jobs coming to Wood County

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of new jobs are coming to Wood County as Home Depot moves forward with plans to open a distribution center into Troy Township. As of right now, they plan to hire about 250 people to work at the new distribution facility.  There are also construction jobs being created by the project as well.

A Home Depot spokeswoman says the company has signed a lease agreement for a warehouse and distribution center in Troy Township. We're told the new facility will be used to support Home Depot's on-line business.

It's expected to be up and running by 2015. The building will be 1.6 million square feet. The warehouse is going up on a 157 acre parcel at the corner of US 20 and Pemberville Road. As you may know that's not far from Luckey and Stony Ridge.

Home Depot also has a distribution center near Findlay but we're told this new facility will have no impact on the Hancock county operations. We will of course continue to bring you updates on the project as it moves forward in the coming months.

Oregon school board members painted a not so pretty picture of their budget outlook Thursday night. The district is seeking a 5.9-mil emergency levy on the 2014 November ballot. If approved, it would collect more than $2.8 million per year over the next five years."We can survive until November of next year but then that becomes the drop dead date and by next November's campaign we'd have to have a list of things we would have to close down to make ends meet," says Dr. Lonny Rivera, superinte...
