JOEY LOGANO AND SAM HORNISH JR. POST RACE PRESS CONFERENCE

JOEY LOGANO, No. 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang- TALK ABOUT YOUR STRONG SHOWING OUT THERE TODAY. "Our car was a second place car, maybe third. Sam was pretty good too. I thought between the two of us we would be second and third. The 54 was so much faster. I am pretty sure he didn't run a hard lap the whole race. Every time I thought I would catch him, he would bust a lap two-tenths quicker than the last one. He had a superior car. We have to figure out how to get these Penske Racing cars a little faster. We went through a lot today. That one run we put fuel only in the car we got really loose and fell back to 10th. We started to work our way up on the restarts and got aggressive on the outside and were able to pass a lot of cars to get back up to second. I was hoping for a green-white-checkered because maybe I could do something to beat him or hold him off for a lap or two, but that is the only way I was going to beat that 54 car today. All in all we were okay, but it was second place."

ON THE EVE OF YOUR FIRST CHASE RACE, YOU ARE STARTING ON THE POLE, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THAT? "I am excited. The Shell Pennzoil Ford was fast in practice. It was really good and I think we have a shot at winning the race tomorrow. I learned some things today that can help. I was talking to Todd out there with Jeremy Bullins together. We were all debriefing today to figure out what will help for tomorrow. We are working as one team here to figure out what we have to do to win this championship. This is one of those tracks we circled as one we can really capitalize on and so far we are doing that. We just have to try to win this thing tomorrow."

SAM HORNISH JR., No. 12 Wurth Ford Mustang – TALK ABOUT YOUR PERFORMANCE HERE AND YOUR OUTLOOK FOR THE NEXT FEW WEEKS    - "I feel like we had the kind of day we are supposed to at this point in time. We were smart with the car and when we got spread out with the restarts we worked our way forward. We ran around Joey quite a bit today. We raced hard together there at the end. We felt like we were a little too free on one of our runs and tightened it up for the end there but just didn't have enough to compete for the win. With where we were sitting at, with about 10 laps to go, we were getting ready to lose a couple points but we got back and ended up gaining one. That is what we need to continue to do, be smart, take care of the car and be there to race hard at the end and give ourselves opportunities to build on our points lead. I felt like our Ford was good. We closed in a little bit on the 54 but like Joey said, closing in and passing is a whole different thing."

JOEY LOGANO CONTINUED: WHERE DO YOU THINK THE DIFFERENCE IS BETWEEN YOU GUYS AND THE 54? "Well, first I want to point out that at Penske Racing we have 10 Nationwide wins between the two of us. We are not far behind. We have won quite a few races this year. The 54 car is awesome. He is our main competition every weekend. Where exactly is hard to pinpoint. It is probably a little of body and it could be some motor and some chassis setups. We have to look at every little area to find a little bit of speed. Its not like he is a half second quicker than us, he was a tenth better all day. That adds up to being seven seconds at one point. It is hard to pinpoint exactly where it is at because he drives away so fast you can't figure it out quick enough (laughter).

SAM HORNISH JR. CONTINUED: "For me, I think we are doing a good job and at this point in the season for about the last 15 races I have tried to not even focus on it because it is something I can't control. A lot of times it is like trying to race the 22. For me, I feel a lot of times racing those two cars isn't going to win me the championship. The people that I need to focus on most importantly is myself and then outside of that is making sure that we race right around the other people that we are trying to beat for the championship and just being smart about how we go out there and run. It is like Joey said, there is a lot of speed on the Penske side as well, we just need a little bit more. I feel like the team knows that. It isn't something that we are sitting there asking for more and they aren't giving it to us. We are all working to be better as a team. I feel like it is a good forward progress. We just need a bigger step next time."

JOEY LOGANO CONTINUED: DO YOU LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED THIS WEEK AND THE MEETING TODAY AS A TURNING POINT FOR NASCAR THAT WILL MAKE THE SPORT STRONGER IN THE FUTURE? "Yeah, for sure. It is clarifying what we can and cannot do. We are all competitors trying to find an advantage where we can. Anytime you can clarify rules it helps our sport I feel like throughout each time and throughout all of NASCAR. I thought today that meeting was necessary and I am glad we had it. I am glad we can put it all behind us now and look ahead into the Chase. It is going to be an awesome championship because we have 13 cars that can win this thing. I don't know who the favorite is going into this. There are a lot of guys that can win it. Hopefully we are one of the favorites, I think we are."

"I feel like we can turn the page now before the race starts. I think today was kind of the end of it all. I know that is what we all want to do and part of that meeting was to put it behind us and focus on this great Chase that is coming up ahead of us because I know that is going to be a hell of a race, that is for sure."

AT WHAT POINT TONIGHT DO YOU BLOCK OUT WHAT HAPPENED IN TODAY'S RACE AND FOCUS ON NOTHING BUT WHAT WILL HAPPEN FOR YOU TOMORROW? "Probably when I go to sleep. I don't know. When you run all these races throughout the weekend you run a couple here and there and your mind gets spun out in some ways. You are running from car to car and trying to remember each practice to debrief with crew chiefs and it is a lot. That is why I didn't run the truck race this weekend. Two is hard and three isn't really smart if I feel like I am going to give this thing my best shot. I feel like I can learn something from these Nationwide races, which is why I do them. At the same time it is a challenge. It is very challenging. I feel like yesterday is even harder than right now. I am already thinking about my Cup car. I will probably go from here to Todd's bus and talk and figure out what our chances are for tomorrow. It is tough for sure. I am have pretty much moved on for today and am thinking about the most important race which is tomorrow for me."

SAM HORNISH JR. CONTINUED: YOU HAVE GOTTEN BETTER AND BETTER IN THE CAR. WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR NOW IN THE CAR? IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN PUT YOUR FINGER ON? "I think the thing that we can work on on the 12 side is the communication and making sure that we make not only the right adjustments but the right amount of adjustments. I feel like that is where we got off today. I think we could have been a little more patient with our last change, especially with the fact that we had just fueled up the car on 23 lap old tires the time before that and went out there. For me, there has been a learning process and I feel like the people I have around me at this point aren't only a little better but I also know how to manage that better. Really, when you come from where I walked into the team at Penske Racing when I drove Indy Car and there were all these people in place. I just kind of accepted it. I was good enough on that side of those cars to be able to do that. I always felt like I could do that over here. Brad (Keselowski) told me about a year or two ago that you have to have the right people around you. If you don't have the right people around and they aren't doing the right things or don't understand you, you have to work hard to make sure they understand you and if they don't you have to work on getting someone new in there. If not, it is too much oriented to have the right guys, the right engineers, the right crew chiefs, the right guys turning wrenches. It is so much more of a hands-on sport than what I was used to in the past. I found my voice a little better as far as that goes."

THE 7 AND 11 HAD TROUBLE TODAY. IS THIS NOW A TWO-MAN RACE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP? "There is a long time left to go but Austin continues to run right around me and I feel like the last couple of weeks was probably a little better than us than for the majority of the race and we were able to get around him at the end and be able to capitalize on it. I feel like today we were much better suited for where we need to be at. Austin and I continue to try to race each other clean and I feel like we have a great battle going. At the same time, it is extremely clean. If he asks me a question about what I am doing, especially at a place like Watkins Glen where he asked me a couple questions about how to help him, I didn't have any problem helping him out a little and I probably still wouldn't at this point in time. The way we have raced each other is a good thing. I would like it to be settled as much by who is the fastest and most consistent as opposed to one of us having their way with the other one. The way he has treated me in the past, we should be able to do that. We should race it out and see who wins this thing.
