Lourdes University's men's cross country team competed over an eight-kilometer course for the first time in program history on Friday, finishing in 22nd place at the National Catholic Championships held in Notre Dame, Ind.
The Gray Wolves posted 704 points in the non-Division I scoring race which saw 169 competitors race. Aquinas won the meet with 52 points, 11 fewer than runner-up Loras.
Noah Roper (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis H.S.) led the way for the Gray Wolves with a time of 32:55.5 while teammate Stephen Carl (Anderson, Ind./Anderson H.S.) posted a time of 33:19.6. Austin Farnsel (Evergreen, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) finished third for Lourdes with a time of 34:22.3 while Matt Olsavsky (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) crossed the finish line in 34:51.4.
Drew Lepiarz (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) rounded out the scorers on the afternoon with a time of 35:47.7 while Zach Zsolcsak (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) registered a time of 36:07.4. Cory Fallwell (Tucson, Ariz./Palo Verde H.S.) finished with a time of 40:32.5.
Robert Sandlin of Bellarmine won the race with a time of 24:58.8.
Lourdes will take a week off before returning to action on Oct. 4 at the Ohio Intercollegiate Championship held in Cedarville, Ohio. The gun will go off at 2 p.m.
