Senior Nikki Chiricosta won the championship at the top singles flight, as the Bowling Green State University completed play at the Falcons' own BGSU Invitational Saturday (Sept. 21). The final day's action in the two-day, six-team tournament was held at Keefe Courts on the BGSU campus, with some matches held at Bowling Green High School.
No team scores were kept at the event, which included Cincinnati, Detroit, Duquesne, IPFW and Toledo, in addition to the Falcons. But, flight champions were crowned at each of the five singles and three doubles flights.
After defeating opponents from UDM and Toledo on Friday, Chiricosta downed UC's Ashleigh Witte by identical 6-1 scores in Saturday's championship match. The BG senior swept all six singles sets in the tournament, losing a total of just 10 games in those six sets.
