Lourdes University's women's golf team competed at the Cleary Invitational on Friday afternoon, posting a fifth place finish at Chemung Hills Golf Course in Howell, Mich.
Rochester (Mich.) won the event by 17 strokes over Cleary, posting a total of 353. The Gray Wolves finished with a team score of 444 on the afternoon.
Haley Steiner (Tiffin, Ohio/Calvert H.S.) led the way for Lourdes for the first time in her career, carding a 100 to tie for 14th place. Danielle Koepke (Temperance, Mich./Bedford H.S.) added her collegiate best round with a 105 over the 6,097-yard, par-72 layout.
Courtney Eff (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford H.S.) fired a 107 while Zhane Broomfield (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon H.S.) added a 132 to round out the Lourdes scoring. Francisca Rodriguez (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer H.S.) made her collegiate debut, posting a 135 for the Gray Wolves.
Madison Smith of Cleary won the event with an 83, three strokes better than Rochester's Audrie Bedenis and Samantha Tarakoff.
Lourdes will return to the course on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves will take part in the second Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference jamboree of the season. Play begins at 1:30 p.m. at Scott Lake Golf Club in Comstock Park, Mich.
