DETROIT (AP) - Authorities say an off-duty police sergeant exchanged gunfire with two groups of people involved in stealing his pickup truck in Detroit.
Police say the shooting happened Tuesday morning on the city's west side and involved a sergeant from the suburb of River Rogue.
The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press report a neighbor called the sergeant to report the vehicle theft. He found his truck several blocks away and confronted several men, capturing one of them. Police say the sergeant exchanged gunfire with people in two vehicles.
Police say the sergeant wasn't injured. It wasn't immediately known whether others involved in the gunfight were wounded.
