CLEVELAND (AP) - Twenty-one people wearing extensive protective gear were set on fire in downtown Cleveland in a stunt aimed at setting a new record.

With a paying crowd of about 1,500 people, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reports that the group of 21 was set ablaze Saturday night and burned for 32 seconds.

The previous record for the number of people burning simultaneously was 17, set in 2009.

The same man who pulled off the 2009 stunt organized Saturday's.

Among those who agreed to be lit on fire were a Cleveland mayoral candidate, a morning radio DJ and a church pastor.

After being doused in lighter fluid and set afire, they walked slowly around and waved their arms and legs. The fires were put out with fire extinguishers and wet towels.
