The women's volleyball team continued their improved play Saturday morning in a comeback effort to beat Trine University, 3-1. Trine was able to take Adrian down in the first set 27-25. The Bulldogs followed this loss in extra time with three straight set wins to take the match and improve to 9-14 on the season and 4-9 in the MIAA.
The Bulldogs got up early in the first set 10-3. The Thunder battled back with multiple runs of three points to pull even at 21-21, and eventually outlasted Adrian to take the first set. The Bulldogs followed in the second with an early five-point run to take a 12-7 lead. Adrian did not surrender the lead this time, and controlled the set the whole way in a 25-23 decision. The Thunder rebounded in the third set by taking a 12-10 lead to control the set mid-way through. The Bulldogs then countered with a seven-point run to take the set lead 17-12, but the Thunder followed this with a six-point run of their own to put the set 18-17. The back and forth play continued with three lead changes and two ties to end the set with Adrian College on top 25-23. The Bulldogs then secured their victory in the fourth set when they took and early 5-0 lead, and followed this start with runs of four and three points to win the set 25-19.
Jordan Brisson led the Bulldog offense with 11 kills. Linnea Berriman contributed a match-high hitting percentage of .429 to accompany 10 kills. Nicole Motz added 21 assists, and Kristi Walker and Ellie Mindick led the defense with 16 and 15 digs respectively.
The Bulldogs will play next in Holland, Michigan against #2 Hope College on Wednesday, October 23 at 6:30 p.m.
