OHP: Lucas Co. 5th in crashes caused by teens

Posted: Updated:

Lucas County ranks fifth in the state in crashes caused by teenage drivers.

State troopers are working to raise awareness and lower those numbers.

It's all part of national teen driver safety week.

The number of crashes caused by teenagers in Lucas County from 2010 to 2012 was nearly 4500. Wood County had more than 1300 and Hancock County 825.

In all, the Findlay post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol handled more than 10,000 crashes caused by teenagers during that 2-year period.

Troopers are encouraging teen drivers to plan ahead to keep from rushing on the roadways and always wear your safety belts.
