Elizabeth Theaker (Maumee/Maumee, OH) scored the game-winning goal as the Express women's soccer team earned a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Cincinnati State Technical and Community College today.
The Surge took an early lead in the first half on a goal from Brittany Abner, but a short time later Kendyl Christian (Clay/Oregon, OH) scored off a cross from Jill Burkholder (Bryan/Bryan, OH) to tie it up.
Towards the end of the first half, Theaker scored on a free kick from 30 yards out to give the Express the winning margin. The shot bounced over the goalkeeper's head untouched.
Erika Brinkman (Kalida/Cloverdale, OH) started in goal for the Express and made four saves.
With the win, the Express (15-2) pushed their program record winning streak to 13 heading into next weekend's Region XII tournament, which will be played at Owens. They earned a No. 2 seed and will host either Delta College or Cincinnati State in the semifinal round of the four-team tournament.
Christian's goal was the 10th of the season for her, while Theaker's goal was her second. Burkholder's assist was her seventh of the season.
