The Lady Jackets honored three seniors today for Senior Day. They fell to Transylvania 1-0, dropping them to 5-10-2 on the year with an HCAC record of 2-4-1.
Kim Bingley (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf), Bibiana Parra (Indianapolis, Ind. / Ben Davis) and Karly Smith (Parma, Ohio / Parma) were honored by coaches and teammates before the game. They, along with their teammates, also sang the "Star-Spangled Banner" before kickoff.
Once play started, Transy took the initiative to get a lot of shots up. They outshot DC in the first half 9-1 in the half. But the DC defense held on to provide a 0-0 tie at halftime.
Defiance made some halftime adjustments that sparked the DC players. They took two of the first five shots to start off the half. That play also included a Smith shot that the goaltender was able to turn away from goal.
DC continued to put the pressure on throughout the half, causing the Transy goalie to make five saves in the second. However, none of them were able to find goal.
Transy's Carley Williams was able to breakthrough with a goal in the 67th minute. A rebound off a shot that was just saved by DC found its way into the back of the net.
DC was outshot by Transy 21-8 including 7-5 on shots on goal.
Head Coach Alex Van der Sluijs said of his three departing seniors, "We will miss these three seniors on and off the field next season. They have been a fun group to have and you always hate to see seniors like these have to leave."
The Lady Jackets will play its next to last game on Tuesday at Bluffton. Kickoff is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
