Snow in Port Clinton for young boy with cancer

Posted: Updated:

There was "snow"in Port Clinton today to help a young boy with cancer celebrate the holiday season he probably won't live to see.

Volunteers created a snow flakes and a snow drift so Devin Kohlman could have a white Christmas.

Devin recently returned home after discontinuing treatment for cancer. He under went multiple surgeries at Cincinnati Children's Hospital but was informed the treatments weren't working. He decided to spend his time home instead of the hospital.

Since his prognosis indicates that he may not see December this year so the entire town is making sure Devin has a Christmas.

In addition to the snow the town has decorated with everything from lights to a snowman.

Wednesday they also held a pep rally because Devin said he missed his football team and hearing the fight song.

"Devin is an inspiring person, he's outgoing and brings everyone together," Aliyah Hurst, Devin's classmate said.

The eighth grader was also surprised with a proclamation from the Mayor naming October 31st "Devin Kohlman Day" in the city.

"He's getting everything that he wants and we're going to make sure that continues to happen," Alejandro Zapata, a family friend, said.

Thursday volunteers are hosting a fundraiser for Devin and his family.  It's from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Lock Dock and Barrel in Port Clinton.

People can also make monetary donations at the U.S. Bank on Second Street, also in Port Clinton.

The family is also asking for Christmas cards.  Those can be mailed to Devin Kohlman, 218 E. Second Street, P.O. Box 323, Port Clinton, OH.
