Bowling Green State University men's soccer student-athlete Brandon Silva has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team. The announcement was made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Silva's name now will be placed on the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot.

Silva is currently in his first semester in graduate school at BGSU as a kinesiology major.  He graduated from the University in May of 2013, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and a minor in Spanish.  Silva had a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade-point average during his undergraduate career.

Silva, a native of Columbus, Ohio (Worthington Kilbourne H.S.), is a BGSU team captain for the third consecutive year.  He has started all 16 of the Falcons' matches this fall at a defensive midfielder position, and has played 1,563 of the 1,576 total minutes to date.  Silva has three points on a goal and an assist in 2013.

Silva, in his fourth playing season with the Falcons after transferring from the University of Akron, has career totals of 14 points on five goals and four assists.  He has played in 71 career matches for the Falcons, starting all 71, heading into this weekend's action.

Off the field, Silva was named BGSU's Junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the Athletic Honors Night ceremony in April of 2013. The award is given to just one male and one female among all BGSU student-athletes each year. He also earned honorable mention on the Academic All-MAC Team in 2012 after being named to the first team the previous year.

Silva was named to the Academic All-Ohio Team b the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association (OCSA) in 2011.  He started every match in 2010 and 2012, and missed just one match in '11, due to injury.

The Capital One Academic All-District District 5 Team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.  To be nominated, a student-athlete must hold at least sophomore status, be a starter or key reserve, and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher.  Team members are selected by a vote of CoSIDA members within the district.

As mentioned, Silva's name now will be placed on the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

The Falcons of head coach Eric Nichols head to Kalamazoo, Mich., for a key Mid-American Conference match vs. Western Michigan University on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 2).  Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the WMU Soccer Complex.
