BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The University of Toledo women's cross country team had their streak of three-straight Mid-American Conference Championships snapped on Saturday, Nov. 2 on a rainy, sloppy day in Bowling Green, OH, as they were defeated by just three points by Miami. The Rockets were the preseason favorite to claim their fourth-consecutive conference title.
Junior Brooke Tullis (Maumee, OH) was once again UT's top finisher, placing 4th with a time of 21:21.98. Tullis, and along with junior Megan Wright (Miamisburg, OH), who placed sixth with a time of 21:27.70, earned First-Team All-MAC.
"It's kind of a disappointing day all around," head coach Linh Nguyen said. "But I told them, we win as a team and we lose as a team."
Juniors Megan Gaysunas, Liz Weiler and Mackenzie Chojnacky rounded out the top five for the Rockets, finishing 11th, 13th and 14th, respectively. All three earned Second-Team All-MAC for their performances.
The men's team finished eighth for the second-consecutive year, led by junior Hillary Serem, who finished 20th with a time of 25:49.15. Junior Jake Kasperski was the team's second finisher, placing 36th with a time of 26:10.60.
"The sting and the disappointment of a loss is something that, either you let it linger or you work to get over it," Nguyen said.
The Rockets are off for two weeks before traveling to Madison, WI for the NCAA Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 15.
