Same old story, same old song and dance as the Adrian College men's hockey team defeated Northland College, 6-0, on Saturday afternoon to complete a weekend sweep of the LumberJacks at Bay Area Civic Center.
Junior forward Josh Ranalli scored two goals for the second straight game and four other players notched a goal as Adrian outshot Northland, 54-18, giving junior goaltender James Hamby his third career shutout. Ranalli now has 29 career goals in 55 career games.
Ranalli and Ryan Gieseler gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead after one period. Justin Basso and Josh Cousineau assisted on Ranalli's goal at 8:52 and Basso and Duston Hebebrand assisted on Gieseler's power play tally at 18:38.
Adrian added one more goal in the second period at 7:15 as Shelby Gray scored on the power play with Basso's third assist and Ryan Lowe also getting a helper. Adrian's 20 shots on goal in the second was the most on the night.
Ranalli's power play goal at 7:09 of the third period was assisted by Cousineau and Chris Leone. Hebebrand made it 5-0 from Brett Pinkerton and Adam Davies at 9:39. Senior forward Zach Wilson scored his 11th career goal at 16:07 from Basso and Leone. Basso tied a career-high with four assists established almost a year to the date on November 3 also at Northland.
Hamby made 18 saves including eight in the second period in his first start of the season. He improved to 20-3-1 in net during his career and hasn't lost a game since his freshman season. Adrian finished 3-of-6 on the power play and is now 5-of-10 this season after leading NCAA Division III in power play percentage (32.1) in 2012-13.
The Bulldogs will travel to familiar foe Milwaukee School of Engineering next weekend. The Bulldogs defeated the Raiders in last year's MCHA Harris Cup Final.
