UT vs. NIU: Mayor declares "Rocket Football Day"

Posted: Updated:

The University of Toledo Rockets are aiming for a packed house at the Glass Bowl tonight, and Toledo Mayor Mike Bell is helping to light the fuse.

Mayor Bell is declaring November 20th "Rocket Football Day" in honor of the game against Northern Illinois University.

At stake is the top spot in the MAC West and a shot at the MAC Championship game.

The last time the Rockets made an appearance there was in 2004, when they won over Miami of Ohio.

To get there this year, they have to pull an upset tonight against the undefeated Huskies (6-0 MAC, 10-0 overall).

NIU is ranked 16th in the latest BCS Standings. If they win tonight, the Huskies will nail down their fourth division title in as many years.

The Rockets (5-1 MAC, 7-3 overall) are currently 3rd in the division, but a win would propel them to the top of the MAC West.

Toledo Mayor Mike Bell will be recognized as the 12th man at tonight's game. The mayor was team captain in 1976.

Our coverage begins on 13abc at 5 p.m. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. on ESPN2.
