Winter weather comes to Washington

Posted: Updated:

Washington, D.C. (12/10/13) - It's far less than what we're used to seeing around here, but the snow fall on Tuesday shut down part of the nation's capital.

The White House was extra white on Tuesday as winter came to Washington. Enough snow fell to close federal buildings and schools in DC and the surrounding areas. But the snow didn't stop the tourists. Many braved the cold and bundled up to see some of the most well-known buildings in the country. Even some rarely-used snow removal equipment made an appearance today. And just in time for Christmas, the White House holiday decorations looked a little more at home with the snow falling.

"Snow Day" isn't a term that's often heard in the Midwest. But the so-called "storm" didn't affect all DC employees. Congress was in session on Tuesday as members try to finish the big-ticket items on their agenda before the end of the year.
