Ahead of House budget vote, Ohio lawmakers are split

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON, D.C. (12/12/2013) - Capitol Hill is abuzz Thursday as Republicans keep pushing back the vote time for the budget deal. The deal has been touted as "bipartisan" and will set spending levels for the federal government for the next two years.

"I will vote for it but I have great reservations because of our inability with the Republican majority to provide extended unemployment benefits," said Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-OH).

She said she plans to vote yes on Thursday night's budget deal.

However, Republican Congressman Jim Jordan (OH) is voting no.

"While this agreement has some positives, it is a marked departure from the balanced budget plan we have been working toward since the beginning of the year," Jordan said. "We need to keep current spending caps in place and get back on the path to balancing the budget in order to help our economy create the jobs we so desperately need."

Republican Congressman Bob Latta (OH) did not provide a clear answer as to what his vote will be.

If members of Congress do not come up with an agreement by January 15, the nation will once again face another government shutdown.
