Ohio police say 3-year-old caught in crossfire

CINCINNATI (AP) - Police say a 3-year-old girl has been badly wounded by a stray bullet during a gun battle in Cincinnati.

The girl was undergoing surgery Tuesday morning at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, where she was in critical condition. Police say she was wounded at about 2:30 a.m. amid a series of shots fired.

Police say the girl had been outside in frigid temperatures with a guardian in the Avondale neighborhood.

After an hours-long standoff ended with surrenders, police had several people in custody Tuesday as they investigated. There was no immediate word on charges.

News reporters at the scene said police found some 20 shell casings around the area.

No other details were available immediately.
