Fukishima Cancer Reports

Posted: Updated:

Fifty-one members of the USS Ronald Reagan say they are suffering from a variety of cancers after responding to a rescue mission in Fukushima, Japan following the March 2011 nuclear disaster.

The affected sailors are suing the Tokyo Electric Power Company saying they mishandled the crisis and did not warm the crew members about the risks.

The affected crew members have been diagnosed with conditions such as thyroid cancer and leukemia. The U.S. Department of Defense says the Navy took proactive measures to limit the amount of radioactive contamination on U.S. Nacy ships and aircraft.
