Revol Wireless customers frustrated at losing service

Posted: Updated:

Brenda Watt has been a loyal Revol Wireless customer for three years.  Monday she was shocked to get a text saying her cell service was ending as of January 16th.

"This is my main contact number that I contact everybody with and I don't have another phone," says Watt.  "I think this is a big headache."

All Revol Wireless customers got that same message.  According to the company website, anyone who has paid for service through December 17th will keep their service through mid January.  But if you paid for service beyond that date, you won't get a penny back.

The website tells Revol customers they'll be able to get a free phone and free month of service by switching to Boost Mobile.

"They sent me a text saying I would get a free phone, and a free first month payment. But they're not offering that when you go to the store," Watt tells 13abc.

The Boost Mobile on Reynolds Rd. near Angola says it will offer a phone, activation and service to Revol's old customers with the purchase of a charger.  Local Boost workers say only corporate stores can shell out the completely free deal.*

"I've been seeing hundreds of customers coming into our stores. Not just mine, all of our Boost Mobile locations," says Patrick Ramirez, who works at Wireless Boys Boost Mobile.

"They pretty much turned their back on city of Toledo and all their customers. So we are going to try this free phone thing tomorrow morning, for all the Toledo customers losing their service," says Ramirez.

At different stores, different stories.  13abc stopped by the Stop 'N Go inside the Sunoco at Holland-Sylvania and Bancroft. Workers did not want to go on camera but say they will have completely free phones, no other purchase required.

Watt says the whole ordeal is frustrating.

"If you're going to shut the company down, it should go a little smoother. Not just hang us out to dry," she comments.

Revol Wireless has not returned calls to 13abc, and many local store numbers are disconnected.  Sprint is the parent company of Boost Mobile, but told us the individual stores are independently owned and operated.  Sprint will not be involved in getting free phones to customers.

*Correction: Boost Mobile does not have any corporate offices in Ohio, Sprint is headquartered in Overland Park, KS.  Customers did call in saying they were told they could get the free phones in Cleveland, Elyria and Akron.  However Revol Wireless has not confirmed that.
