University of Toledo Head Coach Matt Campbell announced today that junior college transfer Tré James has signed a national letter of intent to play with the Rockets. James is a linebacker/defensive end who hails from Baltimore and attended junior college at Snow College in Ephraim, UT. He will have junior eligibility for the Rockets in 2014.
"We are very pleased to add Tré to our 2014 recruiting class," said Campbell. "With the loss of (seniors) Jayrone Elliott and Christian Smith, the recruitment of a high-end pass rusher became a primary focus for us in this recruiting class. Tre gives us an immediate-impact talent. He is also a young man with great character and work ethic that will help lead this program in the future."
James had 34 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks in 11 games as a sophomore at Snow. In nine games as a freshman, he had 15 tackles and 6.5 sacks.
At Baltimore City College High School, James earned first-team all-state honors as a senior, racking up 63 tackles and 23 sacks. As a junior, James had 59 tackles and 13 sacks, earning all-city honors.
The remainder of Toledo's 2013 football recruiting class will be announced on national signing day on Feb. 5.
