The women's basketball team jumped over the .500 mark (5-4) with a strong second half in an 80-57 road win at Anderson University on Saturday. Anderson (0-8) and Adrian met for the 10th time and Adrian now leads the series 6-4 having won the last six meetings.
Senior guard Casey Fougerousse played the role of unsung hero with a season-high 14 points marking just the second time she scored in double figures this season. Fougerousse connected on four three-pointers, one shy of her career-high and was two points shy of her career-high as Adrian broke open a close game in the second half.
The Bulldogs led 38-34 at the break and outscored the Ravens 42-23 in the second half en route to the win. Adrian used an 8-0 run beginning at the 15:56 mark and led 52-38 with 12:50 remaining in the contest. The Bulldogs increased their lead to 68-48 with 7:36 left and led by as many as 26 (78-52) with 2:40 to go.
Adrian shot 48.3 percent for the game going 28-for-58 from the floor including 10-for-22 behind the arc. The 10 made three-pointers and 45.5 percent behind the arc were both season bests. Adrian had been outrebounded in their last five games, but snapped that with a 36-34 edge on the glass. The Bulldogs also had 16 assists to 11 turnovers and 22 points off Anderson turnovers.
Freshman guard Marissa Cotton provided a spark off the bench tying a career-high with 11 points and going 3-for-4 behind the arc. LaQwana Dockery had her streak of eight straight games in double figures to start the season come to an end with nine points in 24 minutes. Jasmyne Owens, Brigitte Zavithsanos and Antoinea McElroy also each had nine points for the Bulldogs. Zavithsanos had a career-high four assists and three steals. TraeVie Shelton grabbed nine rebounds and had a career-high five assists.
