The Bulldogs men's basketball team capped their weekend at the "M" Club Classic with a victory over Hiram Sunday afternoon. Adrian overcame a first half shortcoming with a second half surge that resulted in a 64-59 victory. This win capped a weekend split for the Bulldogs and advanced their record to 4-7 on the season.
Adrian jumped out to an early 6-2 lead before Hiram came back and tied the game 10-10 with 13:39 left in the first half. The Bulldogs followed this by taking eight of the next eleven points scored and carried an 18-13 advantage with 10:24 remaining in the half. Adrian carried this momentum to a late 29-25 lead before Hiram scored the final five points of the half and the Bulldogs trailed 30-29 with 20 minutes to play.
The second half started with this continual even gameplay and the score was in a deadlock with 9:36 left, 45-45. The Bulldogs finally broke through and took the lead for good at the 7:33 mark when a Rickey Jackson layup put Adrian up 49-48. The Bulldogs would need to fight hard to maintain this lead as Hiram continued to test Adrian for the remainder of the game, but they failed to overcome the stingy play of Adrian. The Bulldogs took the second half 35-29 on their way to a 64-59 victory.
Rickey Jackson led Adrian with 24 points and eight rebounds. Wesley Reed tallied 18 points and six boards and Ben Rodak added nine points and nine rebounds.
The Bulldogs shot 47.1% (11-23) from three point range and scored 16 points in the paint to just 12 from Hiram.
Adrian will see action again January 8 when they open MIAA play in a home game against Olivet College at 7:30 p.m.
