Shelter offers young girls refuge from the sex trade

Posted: Updated:

The STARS Shelter is offering young woman involved in prostitution refuge from the sex trade.

STARS stands for "Standing Together Against Real Slavery" and the shelter offers victims of human trafficking a warm, safe place to go.

The shelter is located at Oakdale and Poole and its founder is traveling around Toledo every night to get the word out.

Elesondra Dermano says, "This is a place where young girls can come and get off the streets and just have somewhere to go."

STARS offers assistance for women aged 18 to 24 who have been victims of human trafficking.

The shelter is asking for donations of blankets, pillows and sleeping bags. Those items can be dropped off at the shelter.
