90-year-old woman dies in snow

Posted: Updated:

A 90-year old woman was found dead in the snow around 9:30 this morning. Officers found 90 year old Virginia McFeters near the entrance her home at the Wauseon Senior Villas. It's at 700 Wauseon Senior Village Drive.

"She was always real friendly and stopped and talked to you if she saw you," said the victims neighbor Glenda Balser.

"I got up about a little after six this morning and I noticed her garage door was open the light was on and her car was gone and I could tell the tracks were fairly fresh," said Balser.

She got concerned and called police. Wauseon police officers immediately started looking for the senior.

"About 9:30 this morning one of the officers came across her car it was stuck in a snow drift at the entrance of Wauseon Village. The car was unoccupied," said Wauseon Police Chief Keith Torbet.

The officers continued to search the area and found Mcfeters about 100 feet away from her vehicle. It appears she was trying to get back home.

"Its such a shame she was only a few hundred more feet away from her house. It just goes to show you how severe the weather is and the reason we put out the level 3 snow emergency. its just not fit for man or beast our there right now," said Chief Torbet.

Authorities don't know how long the 90-year-old woman had been in the snow. Balser says her neighbor was a sweetheart.

"She's going to be missed," said the neighbor.

Wauseon's police chief says these temperatures are life threatening. If you don't have to go outside don't. He says you should also check on neighbors.
