The Bowling Green swimming team returned from a month off by placing second at the Tampa Relays Saturday, hosted by the University of Tampa. The Falcons scored 398 team points to edge the host school, ranked No. 13 in the country at the Division II level, by eight points. Dartmouth, ranked No. 34 in the country, won the meet with 534 points.

Competing in 10 relay events, many of which were unique to college swimming, the Falcons won two races, placing first in the 400 medley relay and the 400 individual medley relay. In fact, the Falcons took both of the top two spots in the latter race. Bowling Green also picked up second place finishes in the 3x100 butterfly relay and the 8x50 freestyle relay.

Maya Skorupski, Carmen Young, Joelle Scheps and Kayla Effinger picked up the first Falcon victory, swimming 4:03.34 in the 400 medley relay. Victoria Griffin, Nicole Hranchook, Stephanie Boyle and Jordan Bullock posted the victory in the 400 IM relay with a time of 4:17.46, more than five seconds better than teammates Young, Petra Laudova, Jessica Carpenter and Hannah Albion in second at 4:22.65.

Effinger added second place finishes in both the 3x100 butterfly relay and the 8x50 freestyle relay. Scheps was also a member of the 3x100 butterfly relay team that placed second and posted a third place finish in the 800 freestyle relay.

Bowling Green will have almost two weeks off until competing in a dual meet at Michigan State Jan. 17 at 6 pm. The Falcons will follow that up with the I-75 Rivalry contest at Toledo Jan. 24 at 4 pm.
