Toledo outshot Kalamazoo 42-32 in the game but the Wings defeated Toledo 6-3 in Kalamazoo Saturday night. Toledo has an overall record of 10-17-3-0 and is 3-11-3-0 on the road this season.
The Kalamazoo Wings would jump out to a 2-0 in the first period on goals by Elgin Reid and Yannick Veilleux. Toledo had some great chances in the first as Wings goaltender Joel Martin stopped all 10 Toledo shots.
"The game can go fast in this building so we had to be sharp from the start," said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. "We played well in the game offensively and deserved a better fate. You have to credit their goaltender tonight he was fantastic and was the difference."
Toledo would cut into the lead when Louis-Marc Aubry collected his 5th goal of the season at 4:32 of the second period. Kalamazoo would score twice to take a 4-1 after 11 minutes played in the second period. Forward Ryan Flanigan would score his first goal with the Walleye at 11:49 of the period to pull Toledo within two. Toledo outshot the Wings 17-12 in the second period.
After Kalamazoo made it 5-2, David Gilbert would score his 7th goal of the season at 17:56 of the third period. Wings defenseman Elgin Reid would score the empty net goal to cap the scoring.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Mac Carruth made 26 saves on 31 shots in net for Toledo. Carruth has a record of 4-4-0-0 this year. Toledo is 3-3-0 vs. Kalamazoo this year.
