Lourdes University's Zach Steinmetz (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.) has been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Player of the Week after leading the No. 25 Gray Wolves to a victory over Marygrove on Saturday afternoon.
A redshirt-freshman, the 6-3 Steinmetz tallied 22 points, just one shy of his career high, and added 15 rebounds while leading Lourdes to the 75-60 victory. The double-double was his fifth of the season.
For the season Steinmetz leads the Gray Wolves in scoring and rebounding, tallying 13.7 points and grabbing 8.9 boards per contest. He ranks 15th in NAIA Division II grabbing 3.4 offensive caroms per night, and his overall rebounding total ranks him 19th nationally. Steinmetz also ranks in the top-50 in the country shooting 54.0% from the floor.
Steinmetz is the second Gray Wolf this season, as well as second all-time, to earn WHAC Player of the Week accolades, joining teammate Eric Worthey (Cleveland, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian H.S.) in recording the honor.
Lourdes (11-5, 6-2) will return to action on Wednesday evening, traveling to Lima, Ohio to face Northwestern Ohio. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Racer Gymnasium.
