Extreme cold plagues travel on Michigan roadways

Posted: Updated:

DETROIT (AP) - Authorities say icy, snowy conditions continue to plague Michigan highways and roadways.

Sections of Interstate 94 in and around Detroit were closed Tuesday because of crashes, including one involving an ambulance. State transportation officials also report numerous crashes or lane closures on Interstates 75 and 696.

Sheriff's officials in southwestern Michigan's Cass County say at least two people were injured Monday afternoon in a six-vehicle crash during a white-out in Silver Creek Township.

The weather is being blamed for at least three roadway deaths in the state since the weekend.

Emergency officials have been warning people to stay off roads, with record-low temperatures in some areas and wind chills that made it feel as though it were 30 to 40 degrees below zero.
