4 years after deadly quake, Haiti still needs help

Posted: Updated:

Four years after a deadly earthquake killed more than 220,000 people, Haiti is still struggling to recover.

On Sunday, Haitian Ismaille Thiogne visited Grace Church in Perrysburg to update the congregation on the progress and what still needs to be done.

Thiogne, who is known as Smiley said, "It was a terrible day for Haiti and for Haitian people." He is now an island coordinator for Missions International Of America. MIA helps provide supplies to the quake survivors.

Smiley recalls, "They came from Port-Au-Prince hungry and didn't have money and that touched me a lot."

Smiley along with other MIA Representatives spoke shared stories of progress, but a lot of work still remains. The island nation was in bad shape before the earthquake. Now unemployment is 90%.

But Smiley says, "A Haitian is never discouraged. A Haitian always has hope in God."
