Tow truck driver hit by hit-skip driver

Posted: Updated:

A tow truck driver in Monroe County was struck by a semi-truck that left the scene on Saturday night.

According to a post on Star Towing's Facebook page, Steven Johnson was struck on I-75 near S. Otter Creek Road while assisting a stranded motorist.

The post says the semi did not stop after the accident.

The company later reported that he suffered fractured six vertebrae and bruising and said that "like a true professional driver, we was worried about his customer and his truck."

The post asked for prayers for the driver.

The driver's wife Dawn Johnson said that he also suffered two serious wounds and required two blood transfusions overnight.

She also said that he was unable to take pain medications until Sunday afternoon due to his blood pressure.

The Monroe County Sheriff's office confirmed that the accident happened at 8:36 p.m. on Saturday night near mile marker 9 on South Otter Creek Road, but would not provide any more details.
