Trial postponed in 1 of 2 slayings at Ohio church

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) - A murder trial has been postponed in one of two separate slayings of elderly parishioners as they left their northeast Ohio church in 2010.

The killings outside St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church in Youngstown left the neighborhood shaken and prompted a police crackdown.

The trial of 32-year-old Aubrey Toney was to begin Monday with jury selection. But The (Youngstown) Vindicator reports the judge granted a prosecution request to postpone the case because a key prosecution witness is in a high-risk pregnancy and can't travel.

Toney is charged in the shooting death of 74-year-old Thomas Repchic and the wounding of Repchic's wife as they left church.

The trial has been reset to April 28.

Nine months before Repchic's killing, an 80-year-old parishioner was fatally shot in the church parking lot.
