Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes moves through the midway point of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action this week with a pair of contests.  The Gray Wolves take to the road on Wednesday, traveling to Southfield, Mich. to battle Lawrence Tech before returning to Tam-o-Shanter on Saturday afternoon for a game against third-ranked Davenport.


Head Coach Karen McConnell: In her first season both on the Lourdes bench Karen McConnell has a 4-13 (.250) record.  Overall as a women's collegiate head coach, McConnell has a 284-260 (.522) record in her 21st season.  She is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.


Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 2-1 advantage all-time in the series with Lawrence Tech.  The Gray Wolves are 1-0 against the Blue Devils in Southfield, Mich., winning 76-63 on Nov. 17, 2012, the first meeting ever between the two schools.  Davenport is 5-0 all-time against Lourdes in a series that dates back to Jan. 4, 2012 following a win earlier this season in Grand Rapids, Mich.  The Panthers are 2-0 against the Gray Wolves at Tam-o-Shanter.


Earlier This Season: Lawrence Tech picked up its first victory ever against Lourdes on Nov. 16, defeating the Gray Wolves 67-62 at Tam-o-Shanter in the WHAC opener for both schools.  Tiffani Blackman tallied a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds for Lourdes while Tarynn Hampton added 13 points and nine boards.  Brenda Davis came off of the bench to pace the Blue Devils with 20 points.  Davenport used a 23-0 run midway through the first half to break open the game on the way to a 96-61 victory over the Gray Wolves on Nov. 23 in Grand Rapids.  Lauren Tilden went 6-of-9 from three-point range to lead Lourdes with 20 points while Hampton added 18 points and 11 boards.  Tiesha Stokes led then second-ranked Davenport with 17 points, making 8-of-9 shots from the floor.


Wrapping Up Last Week: On Wednesday evening Lourdes had four players score in double figures but came away on the short end of a 73-64 score against Northwestern Ohio in Lima.  Tarynn Hampton led the Gray Wolves with 16 points while Lauren Tilden and Tiffany Scott each added 13 points.  Free throws proved to be the difference on Saturday afternoon as Lourdes dropped a 59-49 decision to Cornerstone at Tam-o-Shanter.  The Gray Wolves shot just 51.9% (14-of-27) from the line while the Golden Eagles connected at an 81.8% (18-of-22) clip.  Scott led Lourdes with 12 points while Tilden added 11 more.


Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils have lost two straight games following an 89-54 setback at Concordia (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon.  Allison Bicknell leads three players averaging double figures, scoring 12.5 points per game.  Hali Butler adds 11.0 points per night while grabbing a team-best 5.6 rebounds per contest.  Jacki Hood chips in 10.2 points per game.  Lawrence Tech is holding teams to 27.4% shooting from three-point range.


Scouting Davenport: The Panthers enter the week having won 11 straight games following a 73-53 victory at Indiana Tech on Saturday.  Davenport hosts Marygrove on Wednesday before traveling to Lourdes.  Tiesha Stokes leads the Panthers in scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.9 points per contest while grabbing 7.4 rebounds.  She is shooting 64.7% from the floor, best in NAIA Division II.  Davenport ranks third in the nation in scoring margin, outscoring the opposition by 25.7 points per game.


Midway Through, Sort Of: Wednesday's game at Lawrence Tech marks the 11th of 22 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference games this season.  However, it also marks the beginning of the second round of conference play, as the Gray Wolves have yet to play Siena Heights.  Lourdes will play the Saints twice in a five-game span which will not take place until early February.


Going the Distance: Lauren Tilden never left the court the entire week, playing all 80 minutes against Northwestern Ohio and Cornerstone.  On Wednesday she scored 13 points in the loss at Northwestern Ohio before tallying 11 points in her effort against Cornerstone.  The efforts mark the second and third time this season that Tilden played all 40 minutes, and for the year she is averaging 37.0 minutes per contest. 


Crashing the Glass: Tarynn Hampton ranks second in all of NAIA Division II averaging 4.7 offensive rebounds per game.  Hampton ranks ninth overall in total rebounding, averaging 10.4 rebounds per night.  Hampton has had at least six rebounds in every game this year, and has seven double figure rebound efforts, and 12 games of nine or more boards.  Her season-high is 25 against Michigan-Dearborn.  As a team Lourdes ranks ninth in the nation pulling down 15.9 offensive rebounds per contest, and its +3.8 rebounding margin is 29th best in the country.


Captains Named: Lourdes has two captains on the roster this season.  Serving in the leadership role for 2013-2014 are Tiffani Blackman and Tiffany Scott.  Blackman is a two-time team captain while Scott is in her first season as a team captain.


This and That: Five different players have led Lourdes in scoring this year ... Courtney Slepko has yet to miss a free throw on the season (10-for-10) ... the Gray Wolves are facing their fourth ranked opponent of the year and 15th all-time (1-14) ... the loss to Cornerstone was the first time this year the Gray Wolves were defeated when shooting better than the opposition from the floor.
