University of Michigan to review weather policies

Posted: Updated:

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Officials are the University of Michigan are reviewing the Ann Arbor school's weather policy after classes were held during subzero temperatures.

The Ann Arbor News reports Tuesday that a committee will be convened to review closing guidelines.

Provost Martha Pollack told a faculty senate committee Monday that the campus doesn't have a plan in place for closing and that the "university should only close in extreme circumstances."

The newspaper reports that the school's hospital, campus police and dining halls still would have to operate even if the campus was closed.

Many Michigan public and private school districts, as well as some colleges and universities shut down early last week due to plummeting temperatures.

The University of Michigan's Ann Arbor campus last closed in 1978 due to bad weather.
