Family of man killed motorcycle crash holds rally

Posted: Updated:

The family of a man who was hit and killed while riding his motorcycle came together Friday to express their dissatisfaction with the way the case is proceeding in court.

Family members gathered outside the municipal court house. They want tougher charges against the driver of the car involved in the crash.

It happened at Dorr and Richards nearly five months ago. Larry Hilton was on riding his motorcycle to work, when he was hit by a car. He didn't survive.

"It touches every facet of our lives. Even though it was months ago, it's still just as heavy as it was that day."

The man behind the wheel of the car was Dr. Nabil Ebraheim. Ebraheim was charged with vehicular manslaughter, but the group of Hilton's friends and family that gathered Friday say that's not enough.

They're not only asking for stronger charges. Instead, they're urging Northwest Ohio residents to support the "Right of Way Bill."

Basically, the bill would hold people accountable for negligence. It would include harsher penalties, including jail time. The thought is, if people know there is more to lose when you get behind the wheel, they may adopt safer driving habits.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ebraheim is scheduled to appear in Mucipal Court in late February.
