Detroit back in driver's seat as auto show opens to public

Posted: Updated:

Make no mistake, the Motor City is firmly back in the driver's seat when it come to auto shows and there is no greater proof than the crowds at day one of the North American International Auto Show.

Scott Townsend's been coming to the NAIAS since the early 80s, but even a man who has seen it all, can't help but notice the resurgence of the auto show this year. ""Things were really scaled back when the industry was obviously going through a rough time there. It's really coming back strong.I haven't come down here in several years so it's kind of mind blowing to see the expansion of COBO Hall. The displays are amazing"

John Terry was enjoying spending the day with his grandson. While Terry liked the coupe Cadillac, his grandson favored a Porsche. Terry said, "I didn't get to know my grandparents and it's nice for my grandkids to know who I am."

It's more than just bright lights and shiny cars. The success of this auto show means the heart of Detroit runs just as well as the engines under the hood.

The auto show is at the Cobo Center in downtown Detroit with hours 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily though January 25th. The show ends January 26th with doors open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
