Be prepared for winter driving incidents

Posted: Updated:

Snowy roads are making for some rough driving in parts of Wood County.

Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn said,  "When you get out in the rural areas-that wind-you will all of the sudden, you'll come out from behind some trees or structure and have the snow covered/ice covered roadways as it blows across so you really have to be aware of that in open areas."

Between Mile marker 189 and 191, six cars spun out and were stranded on Sunday afternoon.

Among them, William Landon. He was stranded for more than two hours. "Help is on the way, but as you can imagine, people are off all over the place.

Sheriff Wasylyshyn says it's important to be prepared.

Landon was prepared, "Thank goodness, I've got water, gas and my cell phone, so everything is okay."

Some things you should have in your car in case you run into trouble on the road: Plenty of gas, water, cell phone, shovel, blankets, flares and a flashlight.

The sheriff reminds drivers to take their time. "We just have to get people used to driving on snowy, icy roads again.  I think that's been a challenge for a lot of people that have kind of forgotten how to drive a lot slower, not make sudden movements and really drive for the conditions."
